DP Ruto Uses President Biden to Vindicate his Hustler Movement

Deputy President William Ruto has once again defended the Hustler movement that he is banking on to take him to State House after the 2022 elections.

Without saying a word, Ruto, through his Twitter account, used a statement from US President Joe Biden to vindicate his Hustler movement that seeks to empower the ordinary mwananchi and grow the economy from the Bottom Up.

On Wednesday, President Biden made his first address to Congress. One of his declarations was that it was time to grow the American economy from the bottom up.

Biden’s remark was also posted to the POTUS Twitter account on Thursday, which DP Ruto used to justify his Hustler strategy.

“Trickle-down economics has never worked. It’s time to grow the economy from the bottom up and middle out,” reads President Biden’s tweet.

DP Ruto’s Twitter handlers then took a screenshot of Biden’s tweet and shared it alongside a tweet he(Ruto) posted last year.

It reads: “Countrymen, finally the Wheelbarrow/Mkokoteni/Bodaboda moment is here. The discourse about; Hustlers not tribes; wananchi not leaders; empowerment of ordinary hustles not power for the few; ordinary hustler jobs not positions for the mighty’ from Bottom up not top down, Jipange.”

Ruto also made sure to highlight the dates on both tweets perhaps to prove that he is ahead of the curve.

Company in KEMSA Scandal is Owned by DP Ruto Allies, says Murathe

Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe finally appeared before the Public Investments Committee on Thursday to answer questions about his involvement in the KEMSA graft scandal.

Murathe, who had been summoned last week, denied any involvement in the business dealings of Kilig and Entec, the two firms at the heart of the Ksh7.8 billion scandal.

“It is very sad when we allow this kind of innuendo. I have never supplied, not even a single mask or PPE. It is so sad people think I am Covid-19 millionaire and everybody is calling me for money,” he said.

Murathe explained that his only involvement was being a guarantor for Kilig Limited.

He said he was requested by Kilig – then under the directorship of Wilbroad Gachoka and a Chinese national Zhu Jinping – to guarantee payments to a Chinese firm trading as ENTEC Technology Limited, the PPE kit’s supplier, so that the firm would be compensated once KEMSA completed the procurement process.

Kilig was awarded a Sh4 billion tender to supply 450,000 personal protective equipment to Kemsa.

When asked to explain how he gave a guarantee without knowing the amount of money involved, Murathe said he only guaranteed the supply of 50,000 PPE kits.

“The use of the word guarantee was not contractual, it was simply a word of comfort that yes, I do know these people. I am not and never been involved in the business of Kilig or Entec, I had no way of influencing KEMSA to pay,” Murathe said.

At the same time, Murathe dragged Deputy President William Ruto into the scandal, claiming that Kilig Limited is owned by allies of the Deputy President and a Chinese national.

“I am not the director of Killig, I did not receive a contract from KEMSA and I did not supply KEMSA. Killig is a company owned by people connected to the DP; they approach people who can finance the company through the lawyer and transfer ownership to the new owners,” Murathe stated.

The Deep Reason Why Nazizi is Stretching her Earlobes

Having been in the limelight since the ’90s, one would be forgiven for thinking that they know everything there is to know about musician Nazizi Hirji.

The First Lady of Kenyan HipHop recently shared little-known details about her family history, leaving her loyal fanbase in awe.

“Thought I’d share a little bit of my family history and origin of my name. My Father @firozhirji is half Indian and half Tanzanian. His father came from Kolkata and his mother from Mbozi which is in Mbeya, Southern Tanzania. He named me after his grandmother. Na is the title for the firstborn daughter followed by their mother’s name,” she shared.

“The literal meaning of my name is Na (firstborn daughter of..) Zizi ( root in Kiswahili). Hence I am the firstborn daughter of root. That’s why I’m super proud to be the ROOTS DAUGHTER,” Nazizi added.

The reggae artist also revealed that her deep family history is linked to her stretched earlobes, which some people have been asking her about.

“So many people have asked me why I’m Expanding my ears. My answer CULTURE. My grandmother and my great-grandma Nazizi had theirs ears expanded traditionally,” she wrote alongside a picture of the “Original NAZIZi”.

According to Nazizi, she always struggled with her identity because of being multiracial.

“I’m so proud that my parents gave me an African name in those times when English names were the norm.

“Being mixed race I always struggled with identity and never felt like I fit in anywhere but I always sought to connect with all the cultures I come from. I will soon share the story on my double nose piercing,” said the Vybez Radio presenter.

Nazizi also disclosed that the first time she stretched her earlobes was painful.

“I won’t lie the first expansion was very painful and as u go up it gets better but I recently went a size up and waaaah it hurt. At the stage, I’m in yes it’s reversible but not completely,” she told a fan who wondered if stretched earlobes are painful and reversible.

Moral of the story? Know your culture lest you become a slave, because “Mwacha Mila ni Mtumwa”.

Award-winning gospel singer Audiphaxad Peter Omwaka alias Guardian Angel says he will never forgive himself for spending a lot of money on his first car.

According to the ‘Atawale’ hitmaker, his first ride was a Mercedes Benz which he bought to keep up with his celebrity status.

Guardian Angel now wishes he could have spent the millions on an investment project.

“One thing I wasted money on was buying my first Car. I could have recorded a lot of songs. Yaani hiyo kitu nilitupa tu pesa hapo, kama ningekuwa vile nafikiria sai singe-buy hiyo Gari, ningerekodi mawimbo. Ilikuwa Mercedes Benz,” he told Pulse Live.

When asked if he would collaborate with a secular artiste, Angel said: “Yes, but it depends pia huyu Secular artiste ako aje. Initially nilikuwa nasema ni kitu haiwezekani but again nikajiuliza who is the most righteous person to sing for God? juu pia mimi niko tu na dhambi zangu.

“Mimi pia si righteous, so pia sometime God pia anaweza kuwa anataka kutumia hiyo song kubadilisha huyu artiste na mimi niko hapo nakataa hiyo Collabo. But kitu naweza fanya ni kuimba a gospel song na mtu wa secular na sio mimi niimbe a secular song hiyo haiwezekani,” he explained.

Kenya has suspended all passenger flights from India for 14 days following a spike in COVID-19 infections.

Revealed: Number of Billionaires in Nairobi

Kenya’s Capital Nairobi is home to 75.8 percent of Kenya’s billionaires, a new wealth report shows.

According to an annual study of Africa’s wealthiest people by Mauritius-based AfrAsia Bank, about 250 of 330 Kenyans with a net worth of at least $10 million (Sh1.08 billion) reside in Nairobi.

Overall, 26 Kenyans dropped out of the ultra-rich list in 2020 from 356 in 2019 and 370 in 2017. The drop was attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic which has disrupted businesses across Africa.

AfrAsia Bank noted that Africa’s super-rich persons dropped by nine percent last year.

In the capital city Nairobi, the number of billionaires dropped by 10, accounting for 38 percent of individuals whose net assets fell below $10 million(Sh1.08 billion).

According to the Africa Wealth Report, Kenya ranks fourth among countries with the highest concentration of billionaires in Africa.

South Africa topped the list with 1,930 billionaires followed by Egypt (810) and Nigeria (460).

In the cities’ ranking, Nairobi emerged sixth in the continent.

Keroche’s New Strong Beer will Generate Sh1B to KRA, says Tabitha Karanja

Keroche Breweries Ltd is banking on its newly launched Vienna Ice Strong Lager to generate more than Sh1 billion to Kenya Revenue Authority annually.

Despite a 25 percent drop in beer sales due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Naivasha-based brewer exuded confidence that it will recover through the new brand that boasts 10 percent alcohol content.

During the new Vienna Ice Strong Lager launch on Tuesday, April 27, Keroche CEO Tabitha Karanja said the beer was the first strongest locally brewed in the market.

“The new product Vienna Ice Strong Lager will generate over Sh1 billion to KRA every year and this will rise with time as per our market projections,” she said.

Ms Karanja said they introduced the new beer brand following a two-year survey which indicated the absence of strong beer in the country.

“For years, consumers have relied on imports in this market and the new brand which is unique will fill this gap,” Karanja said.

The Keroche founder also revealed plans were underway to launch another brand of strong beer in the next three months.

Sexually Explicit Cartoon Earns Mt Kenya TV a Suspension and Hefty Fine

The Communication Authority of Kenya has finally taken disciplinary action against Mt Kenya TV for airing explicit content last week.

On Monday, April 19, 2021, the vernacular station aired an animated movie titled “Free Jimmy” during its ‘Mucii wa Ciiana’ (home of the children) programme. The film contained sexually explicit content and scenes containing drug abuse, robbery, and violence.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Communication Authority said it established that Mt Kenya TV aired the content at 2 pm – during the watershed period – thereby exposing minors to offensive and grievous content.

Authority acting director-general Mercy Wanjau said Mt Kenya TV attributed the violation to a content mix-up in the control room, but failed to explain how the offensive content found its way into the content server.

“In addition, the licensee outlined a raft of measures taken to prevent a recurrence, including instituting internal disciplinary action and a fresh audit of all content lined up for airing to ensure the programming complied with the law,” Mercy Wanjau said.

The authority suspended Mt Kenya TV for four weeks and also imposed a penalty of Sh500,000.

“The authority has directed Mt Kenya TV Channel to go off air from mid-day today for a minimum period of fours weeks, within which time the licensee shall put in place appropriate safeguards to ensure compliance with its license terms and conditions. The station will only go back on air after the authority confirms that it has complied with all the current and outstanding compliance issues,” stated Mrs. Wanjau.

“The Authority notes with great concern that the licensee has continued to countenance non-compliance and as a result some of the issues raised before have remained outstanding for over 120 days. As a result, the authority has imposed a penalty of Ksh.500,000, which is recoverable summarily. These outstanding compliance issues should be closed within 30 days.”

The station was also directed to review its internal controls on access to the system for queuing and scheduling of its programmes to prevent a recurrence of the same, as well as to avail all staff for mandatory training on the Programming Code within 7 days.

The authority further wants Mt Kenya TV to review its editorial policy to align it with requirements of the law on protection of children, and to ensure the Media Council of Kenya accredits its presenter

I Don’t Deserve Such Treatment, Linturi Laments Dramatic Arrest

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was Wednesday afternoon arrested under unclear circumstances, forcing Speaker Kenneth Lusaka to postpone the Senate sitting on the BBI Bill.

Linturi was later released following complaints from Senators who threatened to boycott the debate on the BBI Bill.

When the Meru senator returned to the chambers, he said armed DCI officers who were in three vehicles dramatically arrested him from his home in Nairobi.

“The few hours I have been in the hands of my good brother Kinoti has not been one of the best experiences, to say the least. But I must thank this House who have seen it very necessary to stand up and be with me…not because I am not answerable to agencies investigating any matter or that I am not supposed to be arrested,” said Linturi.

The Senator castigated the DCI saying he should have been treated with dignity.

“Today is a serious day in the history of this country. Despite that serious moment in our history that will not probably come in the next few years… I find it very absurd. I would have been summoned to go to the DCI on Monday or yesterday or any other day but doing it today is what is very painful. When I left here and went to my house after reading the Bill, I found police officers in three vehicles brandishing guns wanting to arrest me. I don’t think I deserve such a treatment,” he averred.

Adding: “Mr Speaker we require to be treated with dignity we require to be told whenever we have done anything wrong or something is being investigated to appear and shed light. I can’t leave Kenya. I’m elected. If I was to run away I would lose my seat.”

Linturi said he was directed to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday morning.

“I have been told to appear tomorrow at 9 o’clock but we shall be here to debate this Bill. So I don’t know what we shall do. Because I need to be here.”

Over 100 Football Fans Fined Sh10,000 for Watching Champions League Match

A group of 106 football fans that was arrested in Kitale while watching the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Chelsea was Wednesday presented in court for flouting the Covid-19 containment measures.

Police caught the football fans in several video show centres at Shanty slums in the outskirts of Kitale town during curfew hours Tuesday night.

Kitale Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Moureen Kesse fined the fanatics Sh10,000 each or risk going to jail for two month months.

The magistrate ruled that each of the 106 accused persons pays Sh5,000 for flouting the 10 pm-4 am curfew and Sh5,000 for failing to observe social distancing protocols. Each charge attracts a one-month jail term should the accused persons fail to pay the fine.

The men have 12 days to appeal the ruling.

Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Fredrick Ochieng warned that they will continue with the surveillance to ensure residents who don’t follow the measures are brought to book.

Allan Wanga to Hang up Boots at the End of the Season

Former Harambee Stars striker Allan Wanga has announced his retirement from active football at the end of the 2020-21 season.

The Kakamega Homeboyz striker cited his age and other private engagements in the decision to hang up his boots.

“Age is catching up with me and I can no longer battle with young energetic players featuring in top-flight football. Besides, I have achieved what any footballer could desire in his sporting career,” Wanga told the press on Tuesday.

He noted that his decision took his colleagues and coaching staff by surprise as they expected him to play for another season.

“Coach Nicholas Muyoti and most of the players were in pain to accept that I will no longer be with them at the end of the season. They still believe I was energetic enough to play for one season,” he said.

Wanga said apart from featuring for the national team for 12 years, his other achievement is plying his trade overseas.

“I have done my best in the last 13 years or more in top-flight football and I think it is time for me to vacate the scene for the young generation,” the 35-year-old prolific striker added.

Allan Wanga further expressed his gratitude to the Kakamega Homeboyz family saying he will the club and their fans.

“Homeboyz is my second home… I have had a very nice time with the club since joining them. Everybody here from the technical bench, players and fans are too good to work with. I will miss them dearly,” he said.

Wanga, who serves as Sports Director in the sports ministry in Kakamega County, said he now wants to focus on his job alongside other private activities.

He also ruled out becoming a coach saying it is a strenuous profession.

“I am not able to sustain the pressure that I have witnessed coaches go through. I don’t admire sitting on the touchline,” Wanga said.

Wanga has played for Tusker FC, Petro Atletico (Angola), Baku (Azerbaijan), Sofapaka, Leopards, and Al-Merreikh of Sudan.
