DP Ruto Enjoys Tea at ‘Bottom Up Hotel’ in Nyamira, Gifts Owners Sh100K

Deputy President William Ruto’s ‘Bottom Up’ economic blueprint appears to be gaining popularity with each passing day as the presidential hopeful continues to traverse the country in premature campaigns for the 2022 Elections.

On Tuesday, DP Ruto toured Nyamira county and made a brief stopover at a mud-walled cafe named Bottom-Up Hotel.

The modest establishment is located in Bomwagamo, North Mugirango, Nyamira County, and is owned by Zachary Matunda, who runs it together with his wife.

While it remains unclear when the owners named the hotel ‘Bottom Up’, photos shared online showed the paint was barely dry, with some observers claiming that it was a PR stunt by Ruto’s team.

Nonetheless, DP Ruto capitalised on it and sat down for a cup of tea and mandazi.

The owners explained that they chose the name because it symbolises their struggle to rebuild their life after Mr Matunda lost his job.

Ruto later gifted Matunda a cash donation of Sh100k, with his wife immediately breaking into prayer in gratitude.

While still in Bomwagamo, Ruto also opened Administrative Police quarters at Itibo Chief’s Camp and engaged farmers from 17 tea buying centres.

Ruto told area residents that small-scale traders and farmers are at the heart of his bottom-up vision.

Here’s a video and some photos of Ruto’s visit to Bottom-Up Hotel.
