A man has been arraigned in a Nairobi court for biting a KRA officer on the finger.
A Milimani Law court heard that on November 17, 2021, John Chege Macharia, 29, assaulted Victor Wamukota who was at the time carrying out his duties as a police officer.
The accused faced a second count of resisting arrest. It was reported that on the same date and time at Mawazo Sacco offices along Jogoo Road in Nairobi, the accused resisted lawful arrest by officers Victor Wamukota, Amos Okoth and Dennis Onzares.
A police report indicated that the police officers had accompanied KRA officials along Jogoo Road to collect tax when the incident happened.
“The said team entered Mawazo Sacco offices where they found a person in the office upon which the accused person was asked to accompany the KRA officials for operating the business with expired fire certificate but the said suspect resisted arrest,” the report read in part.
During an ensuing commotion, Wamukota came in to assist the KRA officials to arrest the suspect but the suspect allegedly became violent and bit the officer on his left thumb.
Appearing before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Wendy Mucheni, Mr Macharia denied the charges.
His lawyer also complained that his client was beaten while in custody at the Central police station.
The magistrate granted a cash bail of Ksh20,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh20,000. She also directed the accused to raise his assault complaint with IPOA.
The case was scheduled for pretrial on December 9, 2021.
