Uhuru Instructs Police To Deal Firmly With National Security Threats

President Uhuru Kenyatta Thursday instructed the police to be firm when dealing with threats to national security.

At the same time, the President reiterated Government’s commitment to continue equipping the police with appropriate training, resources, and weaponry to enable them to defeat enemy forces.

“As a Government, we will ensure you are well equipped and able to stand firm without asking help from the GSU or military but are able to undertake your duties effectively protecting your nation as general duty officers posted in various stations.

“I have no doubt you will be able to perform those duties. Our call as a Government is that you work in collaboration with others because it is by performing those duties that you will be able to defeat the enemy undermining the security of our nation,” the President said.

The Head of State spoke in Kajiado County where he presided over the graduation ceremony of paramilitary officers who attended a three-month Kenya Police Tactical Operation Course at the National Police Service, Magadi Field Training Campus.

The graduating officers will be incorporated in the Quick Response Unit and deployed as General Duty Officers in crime-infested areas of the country to spearhead the fight against organised crime including terrorism.

While commending the officers for their bravery and determination that saw them complete the tough training, President Kenyatta reminded the policemen to remain true to their calling by maintaining high standards of discipline, professionalism and integrity.

“Continue to maintain discipline and bravery as you ensure you utilize the skills you have learnt to protect our citizens and the interests of the country. Don’t be involved in criminal activities. Don’t violate the rights of your fellow citizens whom you are suppose to protect.

“Protect our country and deal firmly with the enemy but live at peace with fellow citizens because if they have confidence that you are there to protect them that in itself will give them confidence to also share the intelligence you require to root out the enemy,” the President instructed the officers.

He said internal peace and security are the foundation for the nation’s prosperity noting that the vibrant democracy enjoyed by Kenyans has been as a result of the sense of security, which the country continues to experience.

“The fundamental reason for the establishment and existence of the State is provision of security. I cannot over-emphasize that none of the fundamental rights that underpin our vibrant democracy could be enjoyed by Kenyans without security,” President Kenyatta said.

Once again, the Head of State reiterated the Government’s commitment to continue with the modernisation of the National Police Service (NPS).

“While our fiscal situation has been tight, we, as a Government, have prioritized the modernization of the Security Sector in terms of equipment and infrastructure.

“Equally important, we have taken steps to improve the terms of service, through the provision of benefits such as comprehensive medical insurance cover and group life insurance,” the President said.

Speaking to residents of Oldonyinyokie who showed up to bid him farewell, the President announced Government plans to provide water to the village.

He thanked area residents for hosting the paramilitary facility and promised affirmative action to ensure that deserving youth from the area get employment opportunities at the camp.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of the National Police Service Hilary Mutyambai also spoke at the ceremony attended by Environment CS Keriako Tobiko and Chief of the Defence Forces General Robert Kariuki Kibochi.

Dr Matiang’i thanked the President for his steadfastness in ensuring the security of all Kenyans noting that the increased Government investment in the security sector was bearing fruits.

“You have taken your foremost constitutional responsibility as President of our country and as our Head of State in securing our country very seriously,” Dr Matiang’i said.

Raila: BBI Referendum Can’t Cost Sh14billion

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has strongly opposed the projected Sh14billion budget for the forthcoming Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum.

According to the former prime minister, the referendum cost estimate by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is outrageous and it should not go beyond Sh2 billion.

Odinga accused the IEBC of impunity and plotting to loot public funds.

“Elections have become one of the major avenues for ripping off the country through various schemes that are never meant to save costs or yield credible results but to line pockets of individuals. Those schemes are evident in the IEBC’s latest reasoning.

“That kind of impunity cannot be allowed to soil an exercise like the upcoming BBI referendum whose objectives, among others, is to stop the culture of theft of public resources and corruption in public offices. The upcoming referendum is also intended to bring sanity to our election processes including aligning the costs to the global trends. That message needs to get to IEBC,” Raila said Thursday.

Mr Odinga promised to pick a team that will help IEBC develop a cost-effective budget for the BBI referendum.

“Shortly, we will pick a team to sit with IEBC and itemize what will lead to a cost-effective referendum exercise and elections. IEBC seems to be determined never to develop an operational performance that contains costs,” he said.

IEBC had attributed the Sh14billion cost to the 19.6 million voters in the IEBC register.

“We have already sat down and asked ourselves what is required for a referendum. Our budget was coming to Sh14 billion though we are still fine-tuning it,” said IEBC acting CEO Hussein Marjan.

Bolt To Partner With DCI To Boost Customer Safety

Taxi-hailing service Bolt has announced plans to work with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to verify the details and backgrounds of new drivers signing up on the app.

While hailing apps usually require new drivers to have a certificate of good conduct from the police, Bolt is looking to tighten any loose ends by involving the DCI.

The company says it will block any driver with a criminal past.

“To further bolster ride safety, Bolt has also strengthened its drivers screening processes and is closely monitoring drivers for criminal offences in real-time, conducting periodic inspection of their vehicles and also providing them with safety training on how to recognise, avoid, or calm potentially violent situations,” Bolt country manager Ola Akinnusi said.

Bolt says it has also improved its customer support to enable better access and improve customer experience.

“We’ve up-scaled our safety features and policies guidelines on our platform that are easily accessible from the app’s home screen such as the driver and rider SOS button, giving drivers and riders a quick way to contact first responders in the event that something goes wrong during a Bolt trip,” Mr Akinnusi said.

Bolt also upgraded the SOS emergency button, embedded with an emergency tracking device and auto location trailing features for security purposes.

It has also included a single tap booking and canceling feature and re-enforced its 24/7 in-app customer support services to improve customer experience.

Pastor Man Kush Lectures Young Celebrities Parading Marriages On Social Media

Yet another “man of God” has sounded an alarm over Kenyan celebrities broadcasting their marriage affairs on social media.

Less than a month after controversial city preacher Godfrey Migwi accused public figures of living fake lives on social media, Pastor Paul Kuria, aka Man Kush, has accused the same celebrities of devaluing the sanctity of marriage.

Read: “Wajesus Family and Murayas are Living a Lie,” Shouts Controversial Pastor

“If you do not know the value of something, it no longer becomes an issue to you, you end up abusing it,” the ‘Home of Glory Joy Ministry’ overseer said.

According to the preacher, some so-called celebrity couples are deluded by their huge fanbase.

“Even the devil has followers and most of them do not know that the same followers are ‘enjoying’ waiting for their downfall,” he said.

“I asked Kabi Wa Jesus the essence of exposing their bedroom affairs, showing people how he surprises his wife. I am not impressed by what someone is doing at a young age, but what matters is the ending of the matter.

“I do not find it appropriate to post the thighs of my wife on social media. I also do not see why I should show you the gift that I have bought for my wife,” added Man Kush.

The pastor blamed social media for troubled marriages, saying many couples are bitter because they agreed to expose their private life to the public.

“We have very few people who go through marital counselling and if they do, they choose to go to those who are almost their agemates so they can get it for free,” he said.

“Some hire their friends who know nothing about marriage as their bride’s maid and best man during their weddings. What will they advise in case of trouble in that marriage?” he posed Man Kush.

At the same time, Pastor Kuria advised people to be careful with what they consume on social media.

“Most of those who are calling themselves gospel singers are in the gospel industry which is all business,” he said, further noting:
“I stopped worrying when I realised they are in the industry [for business].”

‘Akorino’ Model Pesh: We’re Not Allowed To Have Sex During Courtship

Popular ‘Akorino model’ Peris Wairimu alias Pesh opened up about dating and marriage, revealing some of the doctrines her strict religion imposes on relationships.

In an interview with a local publication, Pesh disclosed that she is single and looking to settle down. The fashionista behind Careh Beauty Shop, however, noted that men fear approaching her.

“If I am to be honest, I’m at a point in my life where I need to settle down. I don’t want to get to my 30th birthday without having ticked this box. I’m yet to find my perfect match. Not so many men approach me, more so the Akorinos. Maybe they feel intimidated by me,” Pesh told Nairobi News.

The IT specialist noted that the few who make the move are usually not born-again nor ready for a long-term relationship.

“You have to be a born-again Christian that’s all I need, it doesn’t matter what’s your denomination. Problem is that most guys who bug me aren’t really born again,” she lamented.

Pesh went on to highlight the steps needed to make an honest woman out of her.

“You see, in our church for the ladies it’s all about preserving our purity. We are not allowed to date and this is what most men want,” she said.

Adding: “Once a man shows interest in you, and you like him, you have to notify the church immediately. Then you guys enter in a courtship that has to last not beyond six months and you are not allowed to have sex. During this time, you get to meet each other’s family and dowry is paid. Once the courtship period is done, you wed.”

Ben Pol converted to Islam on October 23 at the Maamur mosque in Dar es Salaam and was christened Behnam.

His mother also spoke about his marriage to Keroche heiress Anerlisa Muigai. Asked whether they are still together, she said: “Yes they are together, even though she has travelled.”

PHOTOS – Uhuru Launches KDF Wellness Centre, Commissions Ulinzi Sports Complex

President Uhuru Kenyatta commended the Kenya Defence Force for partnering with other public entities in the delivery of key services.

The President said the military’s contribution to national progress through the multi-agency arrangement had demonstrated KDF’s commitment and loyalty to the nation.

The Head of State spoke Wednesday at Lang’ata Barracks in Nairobi County where joined KDF soldiers and families in launching the construction of the Ulinzi Sports Complex and the inauguration of the Defence Forces Wellness Centre.

When complete, Ulinzi Sports Complex will host a modern football pitch and training ground, an indoor arena, basketball and tennis courts, and an Olympic-size swimming pool on 35 acres of land inside Lang’ata Barracks.

The wellness centre is a 70-bed capacity hospital, well equipped to offer outpatient and inpatient medical services in mental health, visual, hearing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and orthopaedic specializations.

The Head of State applauded the KDF for its commitment to the ideals of its mission and higher standard in public service, saying the two new projects undertaken by the military exemplify the forces transformative orientation.

“Your sense of purpose, the time, energy and focus invested in conceptualizing these projects, is evidence that the KDF is a unique institution, committed to the ideals of its mission and higher standards in public service,” the President said.

He said the stadium and hospital will go a long way in enabling KDF to achieve the operational readiness it requires to execute mandate of safeguarding the nation against external aggression.

The President said the wellness facility aligns well with the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) pillar of the Government’s Big 4 Agenda which prioritizes preventive healthcare.

He said the health innovations being piloted by the military will be integrated into the national health system as the country gears up for the national roll-out of UHC.

At the event attended by Cabinet Secretaries Monica Juma (Defence), Raychelle Omamo (Foreign Affairs) and the top military leadership led by Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi, the President said the wellness centre has been constructed at the appropriate time given KDF’s involvement in Somalia and as the country battles Covid-19.

“The Centre is, indeed, a pioneer in providing a one-stop facility for healthcare services, unique to the military fraternity, in particular; and security personnel in general. Therefore, it will become a key enabler of welfare to the KDF community and other security agencies involved in active duty,” the President said.

The Head of State said the wellness centre and the sports complex will not only address the health needs of the soldiers but will also enhance the country’s national sports and healthcare infrastructure.

“The Sports Complex, therefore, aligns well with my Government’s priorities of a seamless healthcare system and the promotion of sporting activities,” the President said.

Chief of Defence Forces said the two projects will mark a significant milestone in fulfilling the KDF’s aspiration of providing holistic healthcare to its soldiers and families.

General Kibochi said the wellness centre was born out of lessons learnt from the war in Somalia and will go a long way in meeting the current health needs of KDF.

Usalama Barabarani: Road Safety Campaign Launched To Curb Road Carnage

The government has launched a major road safety programme dubbed Usalama Barabarani to curb the rising road carnage in the country.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i rolled out the initiative Wednesday morning at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) headquarters in Nairobi.

Usalama Barabarani is a three-year project by the Kenyan government in partnership with the European Union. It is aimed at enhancing road traffic safety in the country through projects that will lead to a reduction in road fatalities.

CS Matiang’i said the programme will be implemented along the Northern Corridor specifically targeting six counties of Nairobi, Nakuru, Kericho, Makueni, Kisumu, and Kakamega which record-high numbers of road fatalities.

Under the programme, nationwide sensitization and training will be conducted targeting majorly pedestrians, Bodaboda operators and the youth.

NTSA will work with the respective County Transport and Safety Committees, and other key stakeholders.

“Let us educate our people to behave responsibly. That’s the only way we can deal with road accidents. Police can only do so much but the greater percentage of that contribution is going to be made through our reformed behavior,” said Matiang’i during the launch.

“We must change our behavior.”

Council of Governors Chair Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya is the best performing governor in the country, the latest Infotrak survey indicates.

In the perception survey on the performance of county governments and governors, the Kakamega county chief received the highest approval rating as seen against set key performance indicators.

Infotrak sought county residents’ assessment on the performance of their elected leaders especially in ensuring a smooth rollout of devolved functions as well as the availability of county government services to the people.

According to the 2019/2020 rankings poll, Oparanya scored 82.3 percent followed by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya (77.1 percent), and Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana (74.4 percent).

In health, for instance, key performance indicators included the ability of county governments and county chiefs to make it easier for residents to access affordable medical treatment, as well as ensuring county health facilities have the necessary medical equipment and medicine.

When Uhuru Will Deliver State of the Nation Address

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to deliver this year’s State of the Nation Address to the joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate next month.

The address had been scheduled for November 5 but has reportedly been pushed to November 12.

“Speaker Justin Muturi has just handed me a confirmation from State House that the President will address the nation on November 12,” National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai told the Nation.

Sialai said the address will be delivered from the debating chambers of the National Assembly, where only 114 of the 416 MPs from the two Houses on a shared ratio will be allowed to attend.

The rest of the legislators will follow the address from the chambers of the Senate and other designated areas such as the members’ lounge and tents.

The public will be allowed to catch the address from big screens to be erected outside the precincts of Parliament.

Sialai said compliance to the Ministry of Health protocols must be observed at all times. “We have no option but to comply with the Covid-19 guidelines that this House helped pass so as to ensure the safety of members and other Kenyans outside there.”

While President Uhuru has in the past delivered the address between March and May, this year’s was delayed by Covid-19 pandemic.

Trolls Force Ben Githae To Drop BBI Song

Gospel singer Ben Githae says internet trolls have prompted him to work on a song about the Building Bridges Initiative.

The ‘Tano Tena’ composer on Sunday released a snippet of the song titled ‘Tuungane na BBI’, that social media users bashed saying he should not release the full track.

Githae on Tuesday said he was requested to compose the jingle for the BBI report launch ceremony on Monday at Bomas of Kenya.

“It was just a jingle but through the trolls, Kenyans have given me an idea to do a complete song,” he said.

“Even when I am asleep, Kenyans can’t let me be. Who told them it is a song? But I will release one so they can feel satisfied.”

“I recorded the song, that is my voice. I plan to release the full song soon. I will issue more details about the song in due time,” added the hitmaker.

Githae, who is a staunch supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta, was present at the BBI launch on Monday and was the subject of online trolling from a section of Kenyans.

But Githae insists that his affiliation to Jubilee political party is his democratic right and he should not be vilified.

“I have a democratic right to support whoever I like and I have been doing political rallies since 2011 so it shouldn’t be an issue. I have not lost a fan. If I have then those are opposition supporters,” he said.

The musician says the amount of criticism the jingle continues to receive is nothing compared to the congratulatory messages.

KEBS Sounds Warning Over Illegal Repackaging Of Food Products

The Kenya Bureau of Standards has sounded an alarm to traders involved in the sale of repackaged food products without a Standardization Mark Permit.

The Agency said traders risk seizure of their stock and prosecution.

“We have noted with concern that various trading outlets, especially supermarkets, are illegally repackaging food products such as sugar, rice and cooking fat without meeting the requirements of product certification that would assure quality and safety of the products. This is in contravention of the Standards Act, Cap 496, Laws of Kenya that requires persons involved in repackaging of products to acquire the KEBS Standardization Mark permit,” KEBS Managing Director Bernard Njiraini says.

Lt Col (Rtd.) Njiraini further said all repackaged products are also required to comply with the labelling specifications of the respective Kenya Standards.

Information that must be incorporated on food product labels includes; the name of the product, list of ingredients, net content, name, and address of the manufacturer, country of origin, date marking, and instructions for use and storage conditions.

“It should be noted that any person who contravenes any of the provisions of subsections of the Standards Act, Cap 496, of the Laws of Kenya mentioned above or fails to comply with any conditions in a permit, shall be guilty of an offence,” KEBS warned in a statement on Wednesday.

Njiraini also urged members of the public to be on the lookout for substandard products.

“We encourage the general public to “Wajibika Na Kebs” and be on the lookout for products suspected to be substandard and officers suspected to lack integrity,” he added.

“Wajibika Na KeBS” program allows consumers to report t cases about substandard products and a hindrance to service provision by any Kebs official.

To Wajibika, verify whether the S Mark permit on your product is valid by sending the code underneath the S Mark to 20023 (SM#Code) to get product validity status details.

To verify whether the KEBS official you are dealing with actually works for the organization send an SMS to 20023 (HR#Staff Number) to get employment details.

Revealed: Number Of Teachers, Students To Test Positive For COVID-19 Since Schools Reopened

Since schools in Kenya reopened two weeks ago, 33 teachers and 17 students had tested positive for COVID-19 as of Wednesday, October 28.

Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang made the revelation when he appeared before the National Assembly’s Education Committee. He also disclosed that 4 non-teaching staff have contracted the virus.

Dr. Kipsang told Members of Parliament that 35 schools countrywide have reported COVID-19 cases. He however ruled out closure of schools unless otherwise advised.

“We are not about to close schools unless advised by the Ministry of Health, but we are putting our heads together to work our modalities of reopening other classes,” he said.

Dr. Kipsang said the biggest challenge is observing social distancing in public schools, adding that they would need to double school infrastructure if they were to achieve it.

The PS insisted that the Education ministry plans to mitigate that by providing water for regular washing of hands and ensuring students wear masks in schools.

At the same time, Kipsang told the Education Committee that the government will not buy masks for students and urged parents to assume responsibility.

He said they will partner with development partners to ensure students who cannot afford masks receive them.

Dr. Kipsang also put parents and politicians on the spot for frustrating efforts to curb the spread of the disease.

“Our challenge is our parents attending political rallies and other social gatherings without masks, let’s not blame our children, why tell us to achieve social distance in schools if parents are attending rallies without observing measures?” he posed.

The committee led by Chairperson and Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua said while it is important for students to resume learning, the government must put in place adequate measures to ensure the safety of children before they are allowed back.

Anti-corruption Court Orders Waititu To Present Himself At KNH

The anti-corruption court has ordered former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to avail himself for a medical examination at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

This after the embattled politician skipped the pretrial of his 550 million shilling corruption case for the third time citing illness.

The trial magistrate further directed the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) to appoint a team of three doctors who will examine ‘Baba Yao’.

Magistrate Thomas Nzioki said Waititu should present himself for the examination within three days.

Waititu’s lawyer had objected to the directive claiming Waititu’s right to privacy would be infringed but the prosecution dismissed the argument.

The court directed govt doctors to examine the former governor in the presence of his personal doctor.

“A sealed medical report should be presented to court since the court is unable to comprehend his illness,” magistrate Nzioki ruled.

The report should be filed in court within 7 days.

Woman Superglued In Genitals Recounts Torture Ordeal

Police in Kandara, Murang’a County are investigating a bizarre incident where two women abducted and mutilated their victim’s genitals last month.

The 32-year-old victim, a resident of Gitura Village in Kandara, suspects a neighbour of hiring the women to torture her. She told K24 Digital she has been having differences with the neighbor for two years now.

She reportedly said her neighbour had asked her to leave her (victim’s) husband following an unending marital dispute.

“Every time she (neighbour) would return home and find me in my house, she would tell me: ‘you are still here? I thought you have already left him’. She developed hatred towards me after I told her that I was not going to leave my husband as she (neighbour) had advised,” the victim said.

“Since that day, she has never spoken to me. On several occasions, she has incited her children to abuse mine. When I confronted her mid this year, she vowed to teach me a lesson, saying: ‘wewe, utajua siku moja (you will regret one day),” added the mother-of-three.

Recounting her torture ordeal, the woman said on September 26, 2020, unknown people in a saloon car stopped her on her way home pretending they wanted to buy land in the area.

“They asked me the price range for different sizes of land in Kenol Town. I told them I did not know, but they could come another day when I would have already gathered enough information. It was during that brief conversation that one of the car occupants came out and sprayed a chemical substance in my eyes. They, thereafter, bundled me into the car and took me to an abandoned house, where they tortured me,” she said.

While semi-conscious, she said she saw two women injecting her with an unknown substance and, thereafter, inserting two battery cells in her genitals before sealing her private parts with superglue.

She was later dumped on the Kagia-Kariguini Road, a few meters from her home.

“I couldn’t answer a short call of nature for a few days, prompting me to visit the hospital, where a surgical operation was performed on me,” she said.

The victim filed a report at Kabati Police Station after being discharged from the Maragua Sub-County Hospital.

Confirming the case, Kandara Sub-County OCPD Isaac Thuranira said the matter is being handled by DCI officers in the area.

No arrests have been made despite the victim alleging that her neighbour has been threatening to harm her if she doesn’t withdraw the matter.

VIDEO: Homa Bay Teen Starts Own Radio Station

A 17-year-old innovator is grabbing headlines for setting up his own radio station in Mbita, Homa Bay County.

Steve Biko Odhiambo, a form three student at Fr Tilen Secondary School, assembled a radio transmitter and a station using locally sourced materials like old motherboards and other electronic gadgets.

He set up the station at an abandoned water kiosk in the village, where he broadcasts and presents a number of shows. Known as Konzer FM, the station covers a radius of 26 kilometers.

In a feature by NTV, Biko said this wasn’t his first attempt at starting a radio station.

“I started my first radio station when I was in Class 4. The sound quality was poor because I was not using a multimeter despite projecting 200 milliwatts of power. I had to abandon it because the sound quality was poor,” he said.

Fr Tilen Secondary School principal Martin Opere lauded Biko for the innovation and called on local leaders to support him.

“He had enough time during the Covid-19 pandemic to assemble the station if we can get our leaders to support him at this level that would be wise.

“Sometimes you hear people saying that the Communications Authority of Kenya could have him arrested, but then he is under 18, he is not doing it to benefit him financially,” he argued.

Nairobi MCA Wants Quiver Lounge Probed For Flouting Covid-19 Rules

The popular entertainment joint along Thika Superhighway, Quiver Lounge, is once again on the spot for allegedly flouting COVID-19 directives.

According to Mowlem MCA Benson Mwangi, the lounge has been allowing congestion of revelers without enforcing social distancing guidelines as stipulated.

The ward rep, who was speaking in the Nairobi County Assembly, said Quiver was risking the lives of Kenyans amid efforts to contain the deadly virus.

“The government has made tremendous efforts towards flattening the curve. It should therefore concern everybody when businesses, especially social places fail to adhere to these guidelines and expose many people to this disease coming at a time when countries fear for a second wave,” said Mwangi.

The MCA wants the assembly’s Culture and Community Services and Health Services committees to probe why the lounge is being allowed to operate in such a manner.

“Pursuant to Standing Order 45(2), I wish to request for a statement from the chairperson of the two committees regarding the disregard of the government’s Covid-19 containment measures at Quiver Lounge along Thika Road,” said the MCA.

“The committees should inquire into and report on reasons why the Lounge has been allowed to operate in the foregoing circumstances and whether they are operating on a valid licence.”

The MCA also wants the two committees to probe the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) on the steps it has taken to ensure social places strictly adhere to Covid-19 measures.

Last month, police raided Quiver Lounge after it was discovered to have flouted directives issued by the Ministry of Health regarding the closure of all bars and nightclubs countrywide.

MP Rigathi Gachagua Claims His Arrest Linked To Low Turn Out At Uhuru Function

Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua has alleged political witchhunt following his arrest on Monday.

Speaking shortly after he was grilled at DCI headquarters, Gachagua claimed he was arrested over poor turnout at a function presided by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Tumutumu, Nyeri County.

“I have intelligence from my sources that there was a lot of pressure to have me arrested over the meeting that took place at Giagatika trading centre, where residents of Mathira kept off. It is alleged that I incited them not to turn up,” he said.

“I cannot be blamed for poor mobilisation. The people of Mathira are proud so they kept off to protest the organisation of a meeting in their area by outsiders. Any meeting in Mathira, without the involvement of elected leaders, will fail,” he said.

The MP is however the subject of corruption investigations on allegations of laundering Sh12.4 billion through illegal tendering processes in the last seven years.

Speaking on Tuesday morning, Gachagua maintained his innocence saying: “I told them(DCI) I have never seen a billion shillings in my lifetime. They claim I did business with the government by influencing the award of tenders to myself and my associates. I have done clean business for the last 20 years, hence it is only natural that I have some little money,” he said.

Gachagua has since had his bank accounts frozen by the Asset Recovery Agency. The accounts hold Sh202 million, Sh165 million and Sh35 million. Two others had Sh1.1 million and Sh700,000.

Millie Odhiambo Denies Heckling DP Ruto During BBI Launch

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has refuted claims of heckling Deputy President William Ruto during the launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report at Bomas of Kenya on Monday.

During Ruto’s speech, Millie Odhiambo was seen appearing to shout down the DP, with some observers claiming she instigated chants of “Respect the President”.

But speaking with KTN News, Millie Odhiambo said she was only responding to questions posed by Ruto.

“I was answering his questions because he was asking us questions about what should be done, and I was basically reminding him he is the deputy president and I should be asking him the questions he was asking and not vice versa,” she said.

The outspoken lawmaker explained that she did not have a microphone to enable her to respond to DP Ruto’s queries.

At the same time, Millie agreed with DP Ruto that some sections of the BBI report need strengthening.

“There are some issues that will be addressed through the constitutional review and some through legislative action,” she said.

Millie Odhiambo also took to social media to post a photo with DP Ruto after the launch. She captioned the image: “After the heated event, I engaged @WilliamsRuto at Bomas. Disagreement maybe, but ideological not personal.”

Former News Anchors Hussein Mohamed, Yussuf Ibrahim Working With USAID

Former Citizen TV news anchor Hussein Mohamed is now working with USAID Kenya after he quit the newsroom in October of last year.

The star journalist moved into consultancy and runs a media company called Iris Media. Hussein is working on a project funded by the US government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

This was revealed by former KTN News anchor Yussuf Ibrahim who said Hussein Mohamed is his senior on the project, Resilience Learning Activity (RLA).  Ibrahim is the founder of Ubra Media and the two are working as individual partners.

“We have a partnership but it is not on paper. It happened we got this project as individual personalities but he has his own firm and I have my own company.

“We are individuals consultants but we want to partner so we come up with a communication firm. We want to have a one-stop-shop for everything to do with communication,” said Ibrahim.

RLA seeks to empower people at the county level ranging from County Communication Directors to upcoming journalists.

The projected is targeting nine counties among them Garissa, Isiolo, Marsabit, Wajir, Makueni, Taita Taveta and Kitui.

“RLA is funded by USAID. The programme will last for five years but the communication bit may continue for four months with a possibility of spilling over to next year.

“This is the only place we are working for at the moment. We are going to work together in future that will culminate into a one-stop communication shop,” Ibrahim added.

Diana Marua Confesses To Being A Gold-digger, “All I Wanted Was To Live Well”

Singer Kevin Bahati’s wife, Diana Marua, has gone public about her past life, confessing that she used to date multiple men for money.

The mother of three attributed her gold-digging ways to growing up poor, saying all she wanted was a good life. Marua disclosed she dated different men who catered for her various material needs.

My life has not been rosy and I’ve done some things that I’m not proud to say but it was my life, it’s in the past. I used to date guys for money at some point in my life because I lacked the whole of my life to a point where all I wanted was a good life. All I wanted was to live well.

“I dated someone who used to pay my rent, nilikuwa na mtu wa kunifanyia shopping ya nyumba, nilikuwa na mtu wa kuninunulia nguo, nilikuwa na mtu wa kunipeleka out. Let me tell you, in my early 20s, money for me was never a problem,” Marua narrated in a video on her YouTube channel.

Diana further confessed to dating a married man who told her he would not leave his wife for Marua but offered her a house and a car. The illicit affair, however, came with several rules that Diana deemed to be more favorable to the man’s wife.

Also Read: “I Was a Party Girl But I Never Dated Victor Wanyama,” says Diana Marua

At some point, I was even a side chic to a married guy and let me tell you I liked that guy sana and I remember at some point aliniambia, ‘Dee I will not lie to you that I’m going to leave my wife for you, but if you want this to work and you want us to settle down, all I can promise you is that I’m going to get you a car, and a house all under your name’ and akaniuliza ‘unataka kuwa na watoto wangapi akaniambia I can’t give you three kids, I can give you one and I was okay,” said Diana.

“Once you are a side chick, there are dating rules; you can’t call him past these hours, you can’t call him on Father’s Day, over the weekend, on his wife’s birthday. And during the wife’s birthday, he would take her around the world and that made me feel bad. Sometimes I would feel I am not pretty enough to get a man of my own. Other times I felt good because I was always on road trips and you are getting money,” she added.

Diana Marua also disclosed that when she met Bahati, she wasn’t working but drove different cars every time they met. She would lie to the singer that she ran a car hire business but the cars belonged to one of her boyfriends who ran a car hire business.

Marua further disclosed that she never managed to save a cent from her gold-digging ways.

“Hii pesa ya haraka, let me tell you, you don’t think of saving. You don’t think of investing because money is coming from all directions at all times. My money was spent on buying clothes, shoes and just revamp my house,” Marua said.

“These things don’t work, it’s just for a season.  At some point, he will eventually dump you. At the end of the day, he doesn’t have anything to lose, it’s you. I found myself in such situations a couple of times. One day I told God that I’m not proud of my life, I am not proud of what I’m doing but give me a man who is going to appreciate and love me.”

Actress Nyce Wanjeri Opens Up On Having To Borrow Sh200 To Feed Daughter

Award-winning actress Nyce Wanjeri has opened up about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected her, saying she and her daughter nearly went hungry at some point.

Speaking to comedian MCA Tricky on her YouTube show, ‘Walk With Nyce’, the former ‘Auntie Boss’ star said she had to borrow a measly Sh200 just to feed her nine-year-old child.

Nyce said being a public figure, she was worried about what her friends would say but dropped her pride for the sake of her daughter.

“I won’t lie, there was a time we almost went hungry. I would call a friend and ask for Sh200 only.

“We don’t talk about such things because sometimes you feel like you are embarrassing yourself for asking for help. But when you have a baby, they have to eat so you have to put your pride aside and ask for help,” she said.

Ms Wanjeri, however, noted that things are looking up since President Uhuru Kenyatta relaxed the curfew hours.

“As per now, we thank God. I have food in the house and when I have enough for us I give out to other people who are struggling.”

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta Backs Fight Against Cancer In Counties

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has assured of her continued support to ongoing initiatives to combat cancer at the county level.

In a message delivered by Beyond Zero Coordinator Angella Langat in Nanyuki during the launch of Empower Project cancer clinic, as part of the breast cancer awareness activities in the month of October, the First Lady committed to continue providing free cancer screening services during Beyond Zero Medical Safaris.

“Her Excellency commits to lend her voice and support to initiatives that will steer Kenya to reduce incidents of cancer and mortality as well as improve the quality of life of those who develop the disease,” Ms Langat said.

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta appreciated the cooperation she has continued to receive from County First Ladies who are championing causes that promote better health and wellbeing of women and girls in their respective counties.

She also commended the strong partnerships between her Beyond Zero initiative, County Governments and stakeholders in the health sector, noting that the collaborations have boosted delivery of health services to Kenyans at the grassroots level.

The Empower cancer Clinic, dubbed “Pink Room”, at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital is the 6th such facility to be constructed through the initiative of the County First Ladies Association to take cancer screening, detection and treatment closer to wananchi.

EMPOWER is an acronym that stands for Enabling and Motivating Partnerships Owned by Women who Engage and Reclaim their lives. It draws extensive membership from health advocacy institutions among them Beyond Zero, ROCHE, Women4Cancer, Africa Cancer Foundation and International Cancer Institute.

Speaking at the occasion where cancer survivors gave emotional testimonies of their journey with the disease, Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi expressed the need for more interventions to fight cancer similar to those dedicated to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If you look at the Covid-19 pandemic and the number of deaths resulting from this disease compared to what has happened with cancer, you can see that the way we have been putting a lot of effort to slow down the Covid-19, we should do the same to slow down cancer,” Governor Muriithi said.

The Laikipia Governor said his administration has invested heavily towards achieving Universal Health Coverage, noting that over 60 percent of the population of Laikipia is covered by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

County First Lady Maria Mbeneka said the County First Lady Association, which she currently heads, will remain focused in delivering healthcare services to Kenyans especially in the fight against cancer.

Ms Mbeneka appreciated Beyond Zero for providing the roadmap in improving access to healthcare services to Kenyans through the mobile clinics and the Beyond Zero Medical Safaris.

On her part, Beyond Zero Coordinator Angella Langat pointed out that the investment in a clinic dedicated to providing screening, diagnosis and treatment of cancer complements First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s efforts in the provision of quality healthcare for Kenyans.

“By embracing the EMPOWER project, the County First Lady of Laikipia Madam Maria Mbeneka, who is also the current Chair of the County First Ladies Association has demonstrated her support for the National Cancer Control Strategy 2017-2022 that outlines broad areas of action along the cancer continuum and the roles that all actors can play therein,” Ms Langat said.

Other speakers included 14 County First Ladies, Roche Company Country Manager Frank Loeffler and International Cancer Institute Community Outreach Head David Kayode.

Striking Matatu Operators Decry Neglect By Uhuru, Raila Odinga

The Association of Matatu Operators has announced a nationwide strike beginning Tuesday citing punitive Covid-19 protocols.

The association’s chairperson Jamal Ibrahim called on transport operators countrywide to withdraw their services to protest a directive limiting the capacity of public service vehicles (PSVs).

Ibrahim accused the government of neglecting the matatu sector. “On Tuesday, across the country, all matatus must go on strike. I would like to tell our leaders, Hon Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, they have neglected our matatu industry,” he said.

Adding: “When they visit places, they always talk about boda boda, they talk about bars and churches but they have forgotten the Matatu Industry. The reason we are striking on Tuesday is because of capacity. Since Covid-19 hit eight months ago, they have not addressed the matatu industry urging for the resumption of full capacity.”

Mr Ibrahim implored the government to relax Covid-19 restrictions in the matatu sector saying operators were suffering reduced revenue.

“Earlier, all local flights resumed normal seat capacity, churches have resumed operation, political rallies are back to normal as well as schools. So why have we been forgotten?” he lamented.

Ibrahim claimed they had written enough letters with no response from the relevant authorities.
